Lifeboat book to be updated

Preparatory work has begun on an update of the local lifeboat book ‘Montrose Lifeboat – 200 Years of Service’, meticulously researched and compiled by the late Dorothy Morrison and published in 2000.

In order to reflect the current position with the recent completion of the new station, the arrival of a replacement inshore rescue craft and the pending acquisition of an all-weather Shannon-class boat in the foreseeable future, the preparation of an update is timely.

There have been advances in reproductive and print technology and design, and with the current emphasis more on illustration, it is generally felt a forthcoming compact volume should reflect these changes.

The communities of Montrose and Ferryden and possibly further afield are requested to submit prints, digital images etc., of relevant subjects pertaining to the local lifeboat service both past and present.

Un-published or rarely published illustrative material is especially appreciated. Such material, to be returned after use, should be clearly marked with owners’ names, addresses, etc. Copyright legislation is increasingly complex so identifiable sources are imperative.

Submissions should be handed in to Scott Murray (Coxswain/Mechanic) or Dr Jim Calder at the RNLI Lifeboat Station, Wharf Street, Montrose or on e-mail
