Local accountancy firm boosted by merger

THE MERGER between a long-established Montrose accountancy firm, and a Dundee company, is being hailed as being of major benefit to both.

From July 1 Archbold Accountancy, Ochterlony House, 182 High Street, founded by John Archbold in 1985, will join Dundee firm Miller McIntyre & Gellatly, 78-84 Bell Street, which trades as MMG.

The new, enlarged firm will trade as MMG Archbold.

John Archbold emphasised that the staff of 10 in Montrose would continue in post, adding: “There will be no redundancies, and staff will transfer to the new business.”

The managing partner at MMG, Gordon Coupar, added that the merger is mutually beneficial, as it gives Archbold’s clients access to new services, while MMG is gaining access to the potentially lucrative oil and gas market. Archbold’s have a presence in Aberdeen.

Mr Archbold told us that about a year ago, with a member of staff retiring and an increase in work coming in, he started to look for a business partner.

He added: “It is a feather in our cap that our name remains in the merged title.”

Mr Archbold was a schoolboy signing for Dundee United in the Jerry Kerr days, and has been a director of Montrose FC.
