LOCAL MP Mike Weir has met with the chairman and senior management of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to discuss issues surrounding the company and its industry.
Meetings are held annually with MPs who represent constituencies which have a GSK facility. Mr Weir said his discussion with Sir Christopher Gent had been positive and he was pleased to hear that GSK globally is thriving despite the world economy’s problems.
He said: “It was an informative and upbeat event. GSK is a major employer in Montrose and has a significant impact both on the local economy and the economy of the wider Angus area. The recent announcement of major new investment in Montrose demonstrates, yet again, the importance of the plant and its workforce to the company.
“Despite the major economic difficulties in the European market and in other areas around the world GSK is performing well and that bodes well for the continued success of the local operation.”
