MONTROSE Folk Club returns to its normal Tuesday night on Tuesday, April 2 for the appearance of the duo of Mairearad Green and Anna Massie at the Links Hotel, Montrose.
Mairearad and Anna are probably two of the biggest names and most talented members of the fantastically talented new generation of instrumentalists who have emerged on the Scottish Folk scene over the past ten years. Multi-instrumentalists, they are a captivating duo. Providing a highly energetic performance with a warm and friendly stage presence, Mairearad and Anna will engage any audience. Both growing up in the Highlands with similar musical backgrounds, Mairearad and Anna share an innate understanding of Scottish culture and music. They have played together for eight years and are appearing at Montrose Folk Club as the first gig of the Scottish leg of a lengthy tour of Scotland and England to promote the release of their new CD.
The fantastic accordionist Mairearad has been a member of The Poozies since 2009, as well as of Box Club and also the Buie Ceilidh Band. She was the winner of the Composer of the Year Award at the 2009 Scottish Trad Music Awards. Equally at home as accompanist and melody player, Anna is one of Scotland’s foremost guitarists and also excels on the fiddle, mandolin and banjo. She is a member of the award winning, Blazin Fiddles and the Bella Hardy Trio. Both Anna and Mairearad are members of The Unusual Suspects. Everyone is welcome for an evening of great music from two of Scotland’s most talented musicians. Doors open at 7.30 p.m. with Mairearad and Anna on stage at 8 p.m.
