LOCAL people have given the nod to a cause close to their hearts by voting to award £2,000 to the Angus Cardiac Group.
The grant was provided by The Co-operative membership for the retailer’s Big Community Vote.
The UK-wide initiative, launched in March, encouraged local charities and community groups to nominate themselves, and demonstrate the value of their work locally, for the chance to win a cash boost to help their project. Five local organisations were shortlisted for an online poll, and members of The Co-operative asked to vote for their favourite.
Mary Ballantyne, from Angus Cardiac Group, said members are delighted with the additional funding which will help its work supporting local people who have or have had heart disease.
She commented: “We’re thrilled with the funding we have received from The Co-operative. We are very grateful to everyone who took the time to vote for us, which shows how supportive our local network is, and how valued our work is within the community.”
Gerard Hill, The Co-operative’s regional secretary in Scotland, said the awards make a positive impact on the recipients and communities.
