LOCAL triathlete Mike Talbot has raised more than £1,700 for a national children’s charity after completing a tough physical challenge.
Mike competed for the first time recently in the annual London Triathlon, which featured Olympic-standard distances for each discipline, to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).
Entrants had to complete a one-mile swim in the Thames, followed immediately by a 24-mile cycle race and finishing with a six-mile run which he accomplished in the impressive time of two hours and 42 minutes. A member of Montrose and District Athletics Club Running Group, Mike took up triathlon as a personal challenge and to date the London event was the biggest he has entered.
He said: “I’d just like to thank everyone who sponsored me. I’m quite pleased with the time but I’ll have to try to beat it next year.”
