Coffee morning to support lonely pensioners

Contact the Elderly, the charity which exists to help alleviate loneliness in older people is holding a coffee morning in Old and St Andrew’s Church, Montrose, on Saturday, June 11, from 10am-12noon.

Volunteer drivers take lonely over 75s to monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties hosted by other volunteers. The volunteers do not receive expenses and there is no cost to the guests.

The volunteers hope to raise money at the coffee morning to help them buy small Christmas and birthday gifts for the guests, as often there is no-one else to remember them.

The group would be very grateful for any donations of baking, bric a brac, books or raffle prizes and hope that the local community will help us support their old people.

There are Contact the Elderly groups in Montrose, Brechin, Forfar, Kirriemuir and Carnoustie and are trying to develop them in other towns. The registered charity is 51 years old and has over 100 Groups in Scotland.

If you would like to donate items for the coffee morning, either bring them on the day, or contact Jean Malcolm on 01356660238.
