Montrose Links were delighted to have as their guests last Wednesday golfers from 45 Commando, based at RM Condor, Arbroath.
The event, over a wet and windy Montrose Links, was sponsored by Montrose Rotary Club. The club’s president, Chris Hardy, presented the prizes in the Stableford competition for 45 Commando to Marc Jackson, the winner; and runner-up Phil Moreland.
Sandy Munro, from Montrose Heritage Trust, presented Sergeant Tony Bewick, Commando co-ordinator of the event, with the Bamse Trophy, which was donated by Montrose Heritage Trust.
45 Commando will now play for this annually.
Regimental Sergeant Major Martyn Small presented Montrose Links chairman Alan Crow with a framed picture of their last tour of duty in Afghanistan to show their appreciation for his having organised the event.
Mr Crow responded: “My thanks are due to Montrose Rotary for their generous sponsorship of the event as well as Montrose Heritage Trust for the donation of the Bamse trophy.
“This event is part of our year of celebration of 450 years of golf in Montrose and the invitation is a token of our appreciation of our Arbroath-based 45 Commando for all they have done and continue to do for us across the world.”
