Counterfeit £50 notes were used in shops in Montrose yesterday.
Police Scotland is urging retailers and licensed premises in the Montrose area to be aware of the counterfeit currency being tendered.
The use of counterfeit notes at a number of shops was reported to police yesterday (Wednesday, September 7).
The notes reported as counterfeit currency were £50 Irish bank notes.
Inspector Ally Robertson said: “We would like to ask the public to remain vigilant and report anyone attempting to pass suspected counterfeit notes, or if they find themselves in possession of these notes, to contact us immediately.
“Anyone with concerns can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
