A TOTAL of eight drivers were arrested for drink/drug driving offences in Tayside between Monday, December 17 and Christmas Eve, during the third week of the Festive Drink/Drugs Driving campaign.
Seven drivers were arrested and reported for drink driving offences and one was arrested for driving whilst impaired by drugs. The drivers were aged between 26 and 60-years-old, one motorist was a woman and the other seven were men. Of these, three drivers had been involved in road traffic collisions. Fortunately, none of these collisions resulted in serious injuries being sustained by the drivers themselves, or other innocent parties.
Yet again, concerned members of the community have been instrumental in assisting police to detect irresponsible drivers. In the latest figures, half of the drivers found committing drink/drug driving offences were traced as a direct result of calls and information received from members of the public, whose safety was placed at risk as a consequence of the motorists actions.
In the past week 102 drivers have been detected speeding, 45 drivers have been reported for committing mobile phone offences and 44 drivers and five passengers have been reported for seat belt offences. This included officers identifying that three children were not properly restrained.
If any member of the public wishes to report a drink/drug driver then please call Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222. Alternatively the charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
