No plea was made today (Monday) in the first hearing of a pair accused of murder in Montrose.

Steve Jackson and Michelle Higgins appeared in Forfar Sheriff Court on charges alleging to the killing of Kim Mackenzie at an address in Market Street, Montrose, at some time between October 26, and November 4.

Jackson, 39, of Market Street, Montrose, and Higgins, 28, of Lower Craigo Street, also Montrose, appeared separately and in private on petition in Forfar Sheriff Court and made no plea or declaration to the single charge of murder. No motion was made for bail.

Sheriff Donald Ferguson continued the cases against the pair for further examination and remanded both in custody.

They are expected to appear in court again next week.

The case follows the discovery last week of human remains in Montrose and the subsequent police investigation and detention of Jackson and later Higgins.
