Angus trading standards officers are warning residents to be wary before signing up for ‘free’ trial offers.
Trading standards have recently seen an increase in the number of complaints from consumers who have responded to online adverts for a free trial for items such as health and beauty products.
However, in signing up for the deal, they have also unwittingly agreed to have payments taken from their credit or bank card every month.
The companies involved are often based outwith the UK making it hard for consumers to claim their money back.
Officers advise anyone asked to give card details on a ‘free’ offer, to be very wary.
Always read the small print and if you are unsure about the terms and conditions do not sign up.
Should any consumer require advice they should contact the council by e-mailing email@example.com or calling 08452 777 778.
