Darts teams ready for challenge

MONTROSE pub Sharky’s is preparing to welcome two of the biggest names in world darts in an exhibition match next month.

Dennis “The Menace” Priestly and Colin “Jaws” Lloyd will bring all the excitement and glamour of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) to a very special evening on March 20.

Local players who would like to battle it out with these two giants of the darts world are in with a good chance with qualifying rounds being held in the weeks running up to the big night.

Competition will be fierce, however, as local darts players compete for the honour of challenging the pros.

Bar manager Carl Glanville (42) is hoping to pull out all the stops to put on big stage entrances and razzmatazz to ensure the night is a big hit.

Carl said that only 45 tickets of the 120 in total are left after the pub was hit with huge demand for the event.

He said: “It goes much further than a simple exhibition match.

“There will be a competition and the best of them will get the chance to play against Dennis or Colin

“The guys are brilliant and they will stay around and have a pint after the match and sign autographs and pose for photos.”

Priestly has won two world championships and was the first player to win both the BDO and the WDC (now PDC) World Championships in 1991 and in 1994.

Lloyd was previously ranked as the world’s number one darts player and he has won two major television titles in the PDC - the 2004 World Grand Prix and the 2005 World Matchplay.

Barman Chris Simpson (19) and chef Ian MacLean (34) have had a big part to play in organising and promoting the event.

Ian himself has competed in the Scottish Open Darts Championships and is looking forward to the event.
