Montrose Rotarians and Round Tablers are putting the finishing touches to this year’s Donkey Derby at the East Links on Sunday (June 24).

The event is a major fund-raiser for both organisations, and over the years has raised many thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes.

As well as the pony races, on which you can place bets, there will be side-shows, including a coconut shy, bottle stall, a bouncy castle and other rides for children. A barbecue and refreshments will be available. There will be games where visitors can try their skill, face painting and beat-the-goalie.

The Gordon School of Dancing will appear and the Montrose Town Band will play.

Also taking part are local community groups including Tayside Fire and Rescue, Royal Marines, Montrose Twinning, Debra, the YM and the Guides.

Convener John Fraser said: “We want to make the Donkey Derby an even more inclusive community and family fun event. Let’s hope we get a good day for it!”

The derby starts at 1.30 pm. Admission is free and there is ample free parking at the East Links.

Montrose Rotary Club and Round Table seek new members. Rotary meets on Tuesday evenings at the George Hotel for a meal in a friendly, social atmosphere. Meetings often include a talk by an outside speaker. E-mail or write to The Secretary, Rotary Club of Montrose, at the George Hotel.
