Montrose Rotarians and Round Tablers are busy preparing for this year’s Donkey Derby to be held at the East Links on Sunday, June 24, at 1.30pm.
It has been one of the most popular events of the town’s summer calendar for many years and is a major fund-raiser for both organisations, raising thousands of pounds for local good causes.
Convener John Fraser said: “We just have our fingers crossed that we get a good day for it and we want to make the Donkey Derby an even more inclusive community and family fun event.”
And the programme has been organised very much with families in mind. As well as the pony races, there will be a host of side-shows including a coconut shy, bottle stall, bouncy castle and children’s rides. A barbecue and other refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon and there will be games where visitors can try their skill, face-painting and a beat-the-goalie event.
The Gordon School of Dancing will appear and the Montrose Town Band will provide musical accompaniment. A contingent of Royal Marines from 45 Commando, RM Condor will attend.
The organisers are keen to attract local charity, community and voluntary organisations to take part, and any local organisation which might want to have a stall at no charge, either as a fund-raiser or to publicise their own activities, can contact Mr Fraser on 01674 675466 or by e-mailing email@example.com.
Admission and parking will be free.
