Two CANCER charities are set to benefit from a special fund-raising event in Montrose this month.
Specsavers opticians on the High Street is holding a fun day next Saturday, May 19, from 10.30am to 4.30pm to help raise money and awareness for causes close to their heart.
The first charity they intend to sponsor is Breast Cancer UK. Members of staff are taking part in the charity’s 26.2-mile ‘Moonwalk’ in Edinburgh in June and, to get into training and help boost donations, they will be walking the equivalent to the marathon between them in-store on a treadmill while dressed in bright pink outfits.
Staff have also chosen to sponsor the Anthony Nolan Trust, which helps people with blood cancer find stem cell donors. To raise money for this essential lifeline the store is holding a tombola and offering a home-baking stall, face-painting, games, entertainment from a local band and a balloon release with a prize for the person whose balloon travels the furthest.
People of all ages are welcome and the staff are hoping that customers old and new will join them for a fun day in aid of two worthy causes.
