In support of Book Week 2016 the ANGUSalive library teams are helping the Scottish Book Trust to gift books to primary pupils across the county.
Today (Monday) they visited Colliston Primary School and throughout the week they will be helping teachers to present Bookbug family bags with free books to every Primary 1 school child. Free books will also be delivered to children in primaries 2 and 3.
On Tuesday ANGUSalive will be helping out at Arbroath Library with Muirfield primary school children, at Woodlands PS on Wednesday; Aberlemno, Andover and Ferryden primaries on Thursday and then Southmuir and Inverkeilor schools on Friday.
The Bookbug family bag has been made possible due to a partnership and funding from the Scottish Government, Education Scotland and Creative Scotland.
Marc Lambert, Chief Executive of Scottish Book Trust, said: “The beginning of school is the point at which books start to become associated with learning in a child’s mind. The Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag has been designed to show children how pleasurable and fun reading can be. The intention is to help them to get more out of school and inspire them to seek out and devour more books.”

As part of Scottish Book Week, the libraries staff at Kirriemuir are carrying out a pilot project aimed at helping parents in supporting their children as they learn to read.
The pilot, which is assisted with funding from the Scottish Library and Information Council, involves the primary schools in the Kirriemuir cluster area.
It aims to encourage reading together as a family and, at the same time, for children to actively seek out the books that interest them and to use their local library, as well as the online resources it offers, and to ask for help from parents and library staff.
An information leaflet has been produced which will be given to children in their Bookbug bags.
There’s also plenty going on for adult readers in Angus, with meet the author sessions at our libraries.
