THE SCOTTISH heat of Skillbuild, the annual skills competition for construction students, held at Angus College, yielded no fewer than five major awards for Angus students, including a first place winner from Montrose.
The three first places went to Chris Kennedy from Montrose (roofing), Grant Menmuir from Forfar (joinery), and Carol Benvie from Kirriemuir (painting and decorating, new entrant).
Angus College Principal John C. Burt warmly congratulated all participants and their lecturers for this stunning success.
The three first prize-winners now have the chance to represent Scotland at the UK Finals to be held in Preston, Lancs.; and if they’re successful then, it will be on to Leipzig for the World Skills Finals in 2013.
Mr Burt also paid tribute to the lecturers who had prepared and motivated their students towards these successes – to say nothing of hosting the event as well – and also to the College’s catering team, who managed to feed and water well over 100 competition entrants and their accompanying minders throughout the event without turning a hair.
