COMMANDO 999 are putting on a Royal Marine Commando-themed day of activity and adventure for youngsters aged nine to 16 at Monikie Country Park on June 24, to raise funds for the Royal Marines Association.
Organiser Chief Inspector Conrad Trickett said the event involves a Commando style challenge for teams of youths. Teams will be compiled by age groups, four members per team. They will take part in five challenges, gaining points for each.
Commando PT – Test your fitness in an exercise session with a difference: a speed march, log run, fireman carry and obstacle-course race.
Commando Assault –Capture the flag from an enemy team using laser shot weapons.
Commando Climb – Test your courage, climb to the top of the tower and abseil back to the ground.
Commando Canoe – In this piece of amphibious action, you will cross the lake between two objectives in an open canoe.
Commando Observation Post – How many of the target objects can you spot from the Observation Post?
In order to participate in the challenge each team will have to raise £400 in sponsorship money. To book a team place a deposit of £40 will be required to cover costs.
Events will run from 10am to 5pm. The challenge will last two hours and will run for different age groups throughout the day, followed by prize-giving.
Age groups are: P4/5 – nine-to-10-year-olds; P6/7 – 11-to-12-year-olds; S1/S2 – 13-to-14-year-olds; S3/S4 – 15-to-16-year-olds.
There will be plenty of other events during the day for non-competitors including military bands and bouncy castles and a barbecue.
