THE NEW catering facility in the precinct at Montrose Academy opened on Monday.
The name, ‘Semper Snacksum’ (Always Snacking), was chosen after a competition between the 60 Tutor Groups.
Lunan House Group Q led by teacher Nicki Orr won with a Latin wordplay on the Academy motto ‘semper sursum’ (Always improving).
The winning name was thought up by Adam Smith. Not the Scottish social philosopher and pioneer of political economy, but an S1 pupil at Montrose Academy.
Adam opened the new food outlet by cutting a ribbon in school colours.
Semper Snacksum, selling healthy snacks at break and lunchtime, is an addition to the catering facilities for pupils and staff at the Academy.
Mr Bruce Pandrich, depute head teacher, said the Academy hoped to provide additional seating to make the area more comfortable and appealing, so pupils can relax outside and enjoy a healthy snack.
Will all pupils who won trophies last year please return them to school before going off on study leave.
