Entries open for annual 10k race

Runners from across the county are expected to converge on Montrose next Sunday for the academy’s second 10k race and 2k fun run.

Held for the first time last year the event, on Sunday, June 9, is being supported by the Montrose Academy Parent Partnership and GSK Montrose.

The school is developing the event in to an annual health day which organisers hope will become a major opportunity for the town’s school and wider community to celebrate the advantages of a healthy lifestyle.

Although the event, which starts at the academy playing fields at 11am, will focus on the school campus it will also help to promote the town’s new sports centre and swimming pool next door to pupils as well as parents and carers.

The sports centre is also helping all 10k participants to cool down after the race with a free swim.

All are welcome to support and participate in both runs for fun or to raise money for their organisations or charities.

Bruce Pandrich, depute head teacher, said: “The academy is committed to promoting the benefits of exercise as part of the new curriculum and in particular the focus on health and well-being.”

Participants for the 10K Race can register their entries online at http://www.eventfull.biz/index.php/sportingevents.html?task=view_event&event_id=29 and 2k runners can register on the day, before the race starts at 11.15am.
