Praise for work to win prestigious beach awards

The awards are set up as an independent national benchmark for local environment quality measuring and to celebrate clean, well-managed and sustainable beaches.

The beaches are assessed annually and must demonstrate excellent beach management and environmental best practice to score well.

Mr Cordell said: “It’s fantastic to see Broughty Ferry Beach presented with this national Beach Award by Keep Scotland Beautiful.

“It’s such a great asset for the area and continues to be enjoyed by many visitors and locals all year round.

“But these awards are only possible due to the hard work of Dundee City Council and its partners and I congratulate all their efforts."

Broughty Ferry Beach is no stranger to being included in the Awards, with the latest inclusion in this year’s 2022 Scotland’s Beach Awards meaning it features for the 20th time.

Mr Cordell concluded: "Of course, to ensure the beach remains as fantastic as it as and can carry on winning more awards in the future, it is important to remember when visiting to please dispose of litter responsibly and to always clean up after your dogs.”

Broughty Ferry is one of six local beaches to scoop the prestigious accolade, with Lunan Bay, Montrose Seafront, Arbroath, Carnoustie, Monifieth and East Haven also being listed.

Councillor Mark McDonald, Angus Council communities convener, said: “We’re delighted to see this accolade given to the beaches stretching along the coastline of Angus once again. It’s a privilege to have beaches of such outstanding beauty in our county.

“These awards recognise the many days of hard work that volunteers and Council staff put towards keeping our beaches in top condition. No matter the time of year, in good weather and bad, many volunteers and community groups are dedicated to keeping our beaches clean through organised events and more spontaneous litter-picks.”

He added: “Angus Council wishes to thank and congratulate the communities around Montrose Seafront, Lunan Bay, Arbroath, East Haven, Carnoustie and Monifieth, as well as our staff, for the exemplary work they do.

“As we head in to summer, I hope many residents and visitors alike will enjoy our superb beaches. But please remember not to litter, bin your rubbish or take it home and dispose of it there.”
