Thousands of geese

A FLIGHT of several thousand pink-footed geese caught the eye of our reporter as he drove past Montrose Basin on Thursday.

He stopped for this picture, which features only a fraction of those in the air.

They were part of the growing population at this time, as the birds fly down from Iceland or Greenland for the winter.

We called the Wildlife Centre at the Basin for confirmation and were told that last year’s visiting population was estimated to be 65,000.
