Village in line for environmental award

In total, 41 groups from 17 local authority areas are taking part in either the judged or non-judged categories of Beautiful Scotland, Keep Scotland Beautiful’s environmental initiative to improve biodiversity in communities, through local growing.

East Haven Together is entered in the Coastal Village category, which it won last year. It also jointly won, with Aberdeen Communities Together, the overall Beautiful Scotland Rosebowl. In addition, the group is one of four representing Scotland in this year’s RHS Britain in Bloom UK finals.

Results for all entrants will be announced at a celebration event and presentation at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh on September 8.

Beautiful Scotland is a long-established community environmental improvement initiative which we run in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) under the UK-wide Britain in Bloom campaign. Groups are judged on three pillars: horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation.

Juliette Camburn, Senior Community Initiatives Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “We are delighted to see 41 groups participating in this year’s Beautiful Scotland initiative and we can’t wait to celebrate all their efforts to improve their local community and increase biodiversity.

“We’re facing climate and nature crises in Scotland so it’s fantastic to see entrants take action to ensure their communities continue to grow and thrive both for people and biodiversity. After four years celebrating online we're looking forward to hosting an in-person Beautiful Scotland Award Ceremony at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in September.

“It will be wonderful to be able to gather in person once again and be able to thank the volunteers for all they do to keep Scotland beautiful. I’d like to wish all those taking part in the judged categories the very best of luck with their entries.”
