Two Dundee mums are encouraging Angus families to take part in free groups to get the whole family fit and healthy this Spring.
The free groups are running in Montrose and Arbroath for families who would like help managing their child’s or children’s weight and learning about healthy eating.
The ‘Fun Fit’ groups are run by NHS Tayside’s Paediatric Overweight Service (POST) in partnership with Mytime Active and funding from the Big Lottery.
The groups offer a friendly, family setting to support people to make healthy lifestyle choices and maintain a healthy weight.
Mums Suzanne Fyans and Nadine Feeney attended the ‘Fun Fit’ programme in Dundee with their daughters and are encouraging Angus families to take advantage of the help available.
Suzanne, who took her nine year-old daughter, Gabrielle, to ‘Fun Fit’, said: “The groups have really helped educate me about healthy eating.
“I thought I was feeding Gabrielle healthy food but I wasn’t.
“Finding out about food labelling was the key to eating a healthy, balanced diet.
“It does take a bit of time to get used to this new way of thinking about eating but it is really worth the effort.
“The programme has helped our entire family, not just the children.
“We have all lost weight, including the grandparents, and feel much better and healthier.”
Speaking about how the group helped her and her 13 year-old daughter Kelsea, Nadine said: “The groups really keep you focused on what you’re doing.
“They are great to come along and ask questions, share worries and concerns and to keep momentum going.
“The programme helps you make the right choices and it’s flexible enough to fit into any family’s lifestyle.”
