A music video filmed by a former Montrose Academy pupil while he was working in Africa has gone viral.

Darren Flynn (33), who now lives in London, filmed the crew of the Bourbon Peridot singing and dancing in their work clothes to Toto’s top hit ‘Africa’, while they were offshore in Equatorial Guinea, in West Africa.

The video has been shared more than 1,000 times on Facebook and has had more than 150,000 views on Youtube.

Mr Flynn said: “I took my camera out on the boat because it needed fixing. I thought I should test it by making a funny video and thought why not do a music video? We decided to do Toto’s ‘Africa’ because we were in Africa.

“I got about 45 workers involved in the video. It was good opportunity for everyone to pull together.”

The remote operated vehicle (ROV) pilot added: “I just thought it would get shared between my friends. I never thought it would get this kind of reaction. I’m shocked at the response it has got.”

He added the crew are thinking of their next video.

Mr Flynn moved away from Montrose in 1999 to go to university in Aberdeen. His parents still live in Hillside.
