LOCAL organisations are being encouraged to put forward ideas to tackle problems caused in the community by excessive drinking.
The Focus on Alcohol Angus Innovation Fund can provide grants of up to £1,000 to finance the best suggestions dealing with a number of target groups. These include teaching young people refusal skills to deal with peer pressure; helping parents to talk to children about alcohol; initiatives encouraging adults to drink sensibly and community groups or projects promoting positive lifestyles.
Thane Lawrie, senior planning officer for Angus Alcohol and Drugs Partnership, said: “Focus on Alcohol Angus seeks to promote culture change amongst the population of Angus by encouraging positive and sensible attitudes with regards to alcohol consumption.
“In response to this, the innovation fund is a great opportunity for community groups and organisations to put their creative ideas into practice to help reduce the problems caused by alcohol misuse. I look forward to supporting local projects and seeing the outcomes.”
Application forms, which should be returned by Friday, May 31, and guidance notes can be obtained by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or telephoning 01307 474879.
