Glamis Castle is celebrating HM Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday with an evening picnic and ceilidh at the castle on Saturday, June 11.
It will be hosted by The 19th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne, Simon Bowes Lyon, who is inviting estate workers and tenants, local residents and visitors from far and wide to join him in marking this special occasion.
The grounds will be open to picnickers from 5.30pm and they should take their own food and drink for the evening plus seating, rugs and suitable clothing.
The ceilidh will take place from 9 to 11pm in the castle dining room with Scottish country dancing to suit all abilities from beginners to the more accomplished dancers.
The castle gates will close at midnight.
In the event of inclement weather the castle restaurant and some tented cover will be available. The restaurant will not be selling food but a cash bar will be available in the castle grounds.
During the picnic entertainment will be provided by the Forfar Pipe Band and Sandra Wright Dancers.
A cocktail bar will be provided by the makers of the award winning Ogilvy Vodka made by a local farming family, the Jarrons from Hatton of Ogilvy farm by Glamis.
Tickets for the event cost £5, children 16 years and under are free but must be accompanied by an adult.
Friends of Glamis also have free access to the event on production of their membership card.
Free car parking will be available at the castle.
Glamis Castle is the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and birth place of the late Princess Margaret, younger sister to HM the Queen.
Lord Strathmore and the Bowes Lyon family retain close links with the Royal family and Lord Strathmore is looking forward to celebrating HM the Queen’s 90th birthday at the family home.
