A centre in Montrose which cares for people with dementia has been given a glowing report after an unannounced inspection by the Care Inspectorate.
Purpose-built Provost Johnston Day - Care Centre on Provost Johnston Road was rated excellent for quality of care and support and environment and very good for quality of staffing and management and leadership.
The inspection was carried out in October 2015 and the report was released this month.
The report said: “People using the service and their families have excellent opportunities and help to be involved.
“Provost Johnson Day Care Centre provides high standards of care and support which result in positive outcomes for people with dementia and their families.
“The environment is clean, safe and comfortable for people who use the day care service.
“Staff were motivated and enthusiastic, well-trained and worked well as a team.”
Since the last inspection in August 2012 the service has been extended and is now in operation seven days per week, changes have been made to the management, the area covered by the service has been extended, new signage has been put in place, staff training has been ongoing and new records for medication and a new format for support plans have been introduced.
The report stated staff continued to provide “a high standard of care and support” to people using the service.
To improve the services, the inspector recommended: “The service should continue to be developed using feedback from users and their families.
“The management team could consider use of resources to further develop dementia care.
“Management arrangements should be clearly communicated and agreed with the Care Inspectorate. Staffing levels should be clearly communicated and agreed with the Care Inspectorate.”
The report concluded: “Provost Johnson Day Care Centre provides a very valuable service to people with dementia and their families.
“People using the service and their families experienced very positive outcomes as a result of the high standard of care and support being provided. The staff team is motivated to continually improve the service.”
