GORDON’S Restaurant in Inverkeilor has received nationwide recognition by scooping a major title at the AA Hospitality Awards.
The 24-seat restaurant was named ‘Restaurant of the Year for Scotland’ at a ceremony in London’s Hilton Park Lane Hotel, which was attended by more than 700 members of the hospitality industry from across the country.
The annual awards bring together some of the industry’s most influential people to recognise the outstanding achievements of AA establishments and individuals.
Already the recipient of two AA rosettes and included in this year’s Good Food Guide, Gordon’s is this year celebrating its 25th anniversary. It was established by husband and wife Gordon and Maria Watson who have now been joined in the business by son Garry.
Since then it has built a reputation based on its relaxed, intimate atmosphere combined with a simple and imaginative menu using Scottish seasonal produce.
Gordon, who accepted the accolade, said: “We are overwhelmed that our hard work and dedication has been recognised by winning this special award.
“This recognises restaurants that provide cuisine of truly excellent standard as well as demonstrating innovation and ambience and providing a high standard of service and hospitality.
“This could not have come at a better time, when we’re celebrating our 25 years in our business and, of course, we want to thank all our customers and suppliers who have supported us throughout these years. Scotland can truly become a culinary destination.”
The Watsons were congratulated by AA hotel services manager Simon Numphud, who praised the restaurant’s charm as well as the high quality of its food. Nominees for the awards are selected on their overall excellence as well as their specific achievements throughout the previous year.
He said: “We selected Gordon’s this year as AA Restaurant of the Year for Scotland because it is a truly charming local restaurant, full of character and warmth that epitomises everything about a family-run business.
“The quality of food and the exquisite level of hospitality make this a commendable winner of this award.”
As well as enjoying a gourmet meal created by five AA Rosette-awarded chef Pierre Gagnaire and the hotel’s kitchen team, guests were entertained by Britain’s Got Talent stars Out of the Blue.
