‘Grease’ to hit town hall stage next month

Montrose audiences will soon be transported to the world of the T-birds and Pink Ladies when The Song Shop stages the smash hit musical ‘Grease’.

A box office phenomenon, ‘Grease’ has crossed the decades and continues to delight generations of fans who are able to recite the lyrics and their favourite one-liners from the film version starring Jon Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

The Song Shop cast has been rehearsing over the last eight weeks and, with another two weeks to go, are fine tuning their production. With only four performances from Tuesday, June 11, to Friday, June 14, tickets are already selling well.

The youngsters even had the benefit of some professional advice when former Song Shop student Llandyll Gove, who recently spent 18 months touring the country with the professional production, dropped in to rehearsals last week to offer his words of wisdom to the cast.

Fraser McGlynn, Song Shop founder, said the production has raised one or two minor issues for the production team.

He said: “The show has presented several challenges, among them the acquisition of props that are appropriate for the era, and creating costumes and hairstyles that are authentic for the period.

“The male members of the cast have been growing their hair so that it can be quaffed and styled for their roles.”

Tickets are available now from Henry Hogg’s Newsagent on the High Street and performances will begin nightly at 7.30pm.
