Grow your own veg, urges MSP

Local MSP Nigel Don has given his backing to Scotland’s growing ‘Grow Your Own’ movement.

Mr Don said: “I see real benefit in communities growing their own fruit and vegetables. It cuts down on food miles, is not covered in pesticides, and can be harvested to plate within a couple of hours. Any surplus can be sold off or gifted to a local school or care home. There are educational benefits if local schools can either be given an allotment or help out on existing plots to find out how food grows from seed to plate.”

It is suggested that anyone with a garden can allocate at least some ground for growing vegetables or fruit.
