ANGUS Cardiac Group has again had its commitment to the people of the Angus burghs rewarded - this time with a grant of £2,000 from the Co-op’s Big Community Fund.
Active for some 19 years, the Angus Cardiac Group has almost 300 members. It placed its own statement on the Co-op’s Big Community website - and nervously waited any support.
The group was supported in its application by Montrose Basin Co-op employee William Nicoll.
The Co-op then announced that the group had secured some 29 per cent of all the votes cast.
At the Group’s recent annual general meeting, members of the three branches in Montrose, Forfar and Arbroath, heard retiring chairman Mary Ballantyne, review a successful year, and thank her committee for their tireless contributions to the group’s work.
Mrs Ballantyne comment-ed: “ Often I have said that the only benefit to having heart disease is the people I have met through The Angus Cardiac Group. The membership have been, and continue to be, a major support network for myself and my husband Scott during the past tough five years of ongoing treatments including heart by-pass surgery since becoming suddenly ill with cardiac disease at the age of 44.
Mr Gordon Sneddon was elected chairman, and Mr Stan Eggie takes over as treasurer from Jean Cook, who will remain on the committee.
