A FREE chair-based exercise evening for people living with diabetes is to be held at the Links Health Centre, Montrose, tomorrow (Thursday) from 5.30 until 7.30pm.
Organised by the Montrose Diabetes Forum, the event is aimed at people locally who are living with diabetes, and their families and carers as well.
Held in the Occupational Therapy Room at the health centre the event will be led by fitness instructor Jane Doig and Angus Community Health Partnership’s community physio assistant Joyce Simpson, who will explain the benefits of exercise and demonstrate a range of chair-based exercises.
Those attending will have the opportunity to try these gentle exercises as well as get tips on how to gradually include exercise into their daily lives. The event also provides the chance to meet and chat over a cup of tea with other diabetics who are living locally.
Rhona Guild, primary care manager of Angus Community Health Partnership, said: “The Montrose Diabetes Forum offers additional information and support to people living with diabetes, and to their families.
“The chair-based exercises are a gentle introduction to the benefits of exercise and the importance of staying active. I would encourage people living with diabetes to come to the event as it is important for people with a long-term condition to have access to the right information, education, support and services to help them manage their condition more effectively.”
