NHS Tayside’s Graham Connan has given up cigarettes with the support of NHS Tayside Smoke Free Services.
He had been smoking for more than 30 years and said: “I was still smoking 10-15 a day and knew that I really wanted to stop. I’d tried a couple of times on my own, with no success.”
He signed up to the staff smoking cessation support service during smoking cessation awareness week and was initially prescribed Champix. He later attended smoking cessation sessions to monitor his CO levels.
“I attended every week to be ‘smokelysed’, which measures the CO present in your body,” Graham said. “That was a great incentive to do well. The first thing I noticed was how much better food tasted. It really is worth getting the right support to give up. I wouldn’t dream of smoking now!”
