PRESSURE is growing on an Angus animal charity due to the number of unwanted pets pouring in to its shelter near Arbroath.
Help for Abandoned Animals has taken in seven abandoned dogs during the last week alone, helping to make 2011 a record-breaking year for the number of animals dealt with by the charity. The group receives support from Angus Council under a service level agreement but also relies heavily on the public in terms of donations and offering homes to abandoned dogs.
Vice-chairman Ian Robb said he has been “gobsmacked” by the number of abandoned animals which he said may be due to owners realising the cost and commitment involved.
