The Inch BC held their Ladies’ Charity Singles at the weekend. 32 Ladies competed in Saturdays Round Robin Sections and the eight section winners progressed to Sunday’s play.

The two Ladies to win their sections got through to play in the final. Eileen Kirkaldy of Hillside BC and Jenny Davidson of Fettercairn BC were the finalists and they gave the spectators a thrilling game.

All square at 1-1 after two ends in the eight-end final it was Jenny who went ahead with a 4 but Eileen hit back with a 3,1,2,1 to lead 8 - 5 after seven ends, but Jenny, not to be outdone picked up a 3 on the last end, and it could easily have been a 4 but her last bowl just fell short.

So it was on to an extra end to determine the winner and it was Jenny who got the shot to lift the Trophy 9-8. Ladies’ President Cath Evans gave the vote of thanks then presented the trophy and prize to winner Jenny, and prizes to runner-up Eileen and to semi-finalists Liz Pirie of Hope Paton BC and Amanda Karpinski from Bervie BC.

Due to Angus Council cutbacks this could be the last time that Macmillan Nurses will benefit from the Inch Ladies’ brilliant efforts, where over £20,000 has been raised over the past 19 years.

This year’s magnificent total came to £1,200 and a cheque was handed over to Macmillan Nurses representative Lynne Neil. Lynne was most disappointed to hear of the club’s position and expressed her sincere thanks to the Inch BC for their generous donations over the years.
