International women’s day

WOMEN from the Angus area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints joined with members from other areas at a conference in Dundee to celebrate International Women’s Day.

This year was the centenary of International Women’s Day and it was celebrated in a variety of ways around the world to highlight the political, economical and social achievements of women. The theme of the conference was to be ‘Steadfast and Immovable’ and focused on the role of wives and mothers and the pivotal role they have in their families.

Mothers have to wear many hats such as nurse, cook, chauffeur, financial advisor - the list goes on - and sometimes can feel overwhelmed and exhausted. One speaker asked the question “do you ever feel you are spinning too many plates?” and then went on to say “we can all spin plates but maybe not all at the same time”.

The fast pace of life today can sap our energy and sometimes we compare ourselves to others putting them on a pedestal and knocking ourselves down but we need to remember we are all at different times and seasons in our lives. We need to look at the seasons in our lives, value ourselves, prioritise and enjoy the season.

Women need to be lionesses at the gates of their homes as never at any time have we needed stronger families and stronger homes. What a wonderful opportunity this is for women to celebrate the achievements of women past and present and to look to the future with hope and joy.
