FINAL rehearsals are well underway for Tayside Symphony Orchestra’s next concert which will take place on Saturday, February 2, in the Reid Hall, Forfar, starting at 7.30 p.m.
The orchestra has selected a varied programme of items relating to the dance theme on which the concert is based.
Pieces by popular composers like Weber, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Strauss, Suppe and Shostakovich will be represented, with diverse offerings like ‘Thunder and Lightning’ Polka, ‘Banditenstreiche’ Overture, Polonaise from ‘Eugene Onegin’ and ‘Blue Danube’ Waltz on show.
Ron Walker, The TSO conductor said: “The orchestra is looking forward to providing our supporters with an ‘Invitation to the Dance’.
“Hopefully our choice of items will appeal to all ages and musical tastes, while helping to dispel the winter cobwebs on a dark February evening. Indeed, we expect to get members of our audience foot-tapping to our playing.
“I am very pleased by the way rehearsals have gone in our new practice venue at the West Church, Dundee and want to pay tribute to the hard work of our players.
“Our concerts in February are very popular so if you want to come along, it might be an idea to purchase your ticket early.
“As usual, we will run a bus from Montrose/Brechin to Forfar at a nominal charge; those interested should contact John Stevenson (Montrose 830250) as soon as possible.
“I may say we are grateful to the concert’s sponsors, Astute (Scotland), EQ Accountants, Savills and Kohe-Noor Restaurant, Forfar, for their financial support.
“Finally, I look forward to joining the members of the audience with a complementary drink at the close of the concert.”
Tickets are on sale from Toy Castle, Castle Street, Forfar; Hoggs, High Street, Montrose; any member of TSO/TSO committee and at the door of the concert. Doors open 6.45 p.m.
