MONTROSE YM will hold its first Strawberry Fair-themed coffee morning this Saturday as a joint fund-raiser with Montrose Christmas Extravaganza.
The proceeds from the event, which runs from 10am to 12 noon at the YM building in Murray Street, will be divided equally between the two organisations.
YM trustee Councillor Mark Salmond, who is the driving force behind the event, said: “The YM’s usual funding providers are starting to reduce grant funding due to the current economic situation and the committee decided that the YM should have more regular fund raisers using the YM’s own popular café.
“The café has been a tremendous success since it opened twice-weekly, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10am to 2pm and has been a fantastic way of attracting new users who may have never visited the YM before.
“It has quickly gained an excellent reputation for quality and value. I therefore suggested to the Committee that we have regular coffee mornings on Saturdays to help fund the YM’S projects with the Montrose community”
Montrose Extravaganza committee member Tommy Stewart also welcomed the event
He said: “We will be picking our strawberries locally on Friday afternoon and they will be served in all different ways on Saturday. We intend to sell different strawberry treats from strawberry pancakes with fresh cream through to strawberry sundaes.”
Entry to the Strawberry Fair will cost £1.50.
