FRESH from a break after being on anti-piracy patrol in the Gulf of Aden, sailors from HMS Montrose are making the most of being back in the UK by learning some new skills.
Earlier this month the Devonport-based frigate dispatched groups of potential leading hands for practical leadership exercises including rescuing stricken WAFUs.
Four main departments - Marine and Weapon Engineering and Warfare and Logistics were represented as the teams tackled a series of problems from saving a stricken pilot from a tree surrounded by quicksand to safely moving drums of chemical waste to clear a helicopter landing area.
Commander Jonathan Lett said: “We wanted to give our more junior leaders the chance to learn outside of the normal working environment.
“A day such as we have experienced here is of benefit across all levels with respect to both individual and team development.”
