Kirsten’s Ghana gig

KIRSTEN Yates is fund-raising to work in an orphanage in Ghana, and recently held a Body Shop Party at the Black Abbot.

The 19-year-old’s trip is through the ‘Reconstruction Project’, and will run from July 1 to 15.

The orphanage cares for young children often affected by HIV and AIDS, and in order to secure her place, Kirsten has to raise approximately £2,200.

Kirsten has been selling cakes and handmade items at Angus College, doing car boot sales at Errol and planning several forthcoming events.

Many of the shops and businesses of Montrose donated raffle prizes for the Body Shop Party, hosted by Audrey MacDonald, consultant, and the raffle alone raised £122.

There was a stall of home-made cards, cakes, biscuits, gifts, etc., which was very popular.

The event raised approximately £415 and Kirsten expressed thanks to everyone who joined in.

She added: “People have also been extremely generous on my website by donating through If anyone has a few pounds to spare I would encourage them to please do the same as I have a large amount still to raise.

“You can also sponsor me from £1 by texting KTVO74 to 70070. All donations made on my website or by text are completely secure and automatically come off my invoice therefore reducing the amount I have left to raise.

“I am also planning several more upcoming car boot sales so if anyone has anything they do not need any more and would like to donate I would much appreciate if they get in touch on 01674 675262 or

“I am also appealing for local businesses to help out by donating raffle prizes for my upcoming candle party on April 7, or bag pack at the Co-op, Montrose on May 12, or sponsorship.”
