A GROUP of friends from Montrose and Hillside will be walking to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond this weekend to raise money for children’s charities.

The ladies will be suitably clad in tartan for Sunday’s Kiltwalk. As well as raising funds for the event’s nominated charities which include CHAS, Clic Sargent, TACC, Yorkhill Children’s Foundation and The Archie Foundation, they will also donate some money to the 1st Hillside Scout Group, which is in desperate need of a new meeting hut.

Last year, some of the group participated in the Moonwalk in aid of breast cancer research.

Group member Diane Milne said: “Some of us trained but didn’t do the actual walk, so we’ve been serious walkers since last year and wanted something to aim for. We’re also hoping to do the Angus Kiltwalk in September.

“We’ve been in training and a couple of weeks ago, did 20 miles. Most of us will be wearing tartan skirts, seeing as it’s the Kiltwalk, but if it rains, they’ll be very heavy.”

The ladies are well on their way to raising more than £3,000, but hope to help get to £3,500. Anyone wishing to help can do so at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/Montrosekiltyladies
