The Montrose branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland has been hosting fund-raisers to boost vital funds needed to fix their leaking roof, which could cost thousands of pounds.

The town’s RBLS branch and the Social Club ran their joint fund-raiser coffee morning in the Columba Hall on Saturday (March 22) to raise the money.

A sum of £670 was raised.

Branch official Iain Robb said: “A great effort that was well supported gives encouragement to the membership towards restoring the efforts in the town.”

A packed house at the clubrooms of the Montrose RBLS branch was entertained by the Scottish Accordion Music Group recently, who performed a colourful concert of a variety of selections of music.

The group from Durris, Aberdeenshire, entertained the audience for two hours.

Mr Robb said: “The audience had their hearts lifted with delightful singing, excellent recitations and music, which had us all feet tapping, and even some dancing.

“It was an absolute sellout and raised £600 for ex-service charities.”

The next major event for the group will be the summer fete on Saturday, July 19, at the Montrose Cricket Ground.

Any voluntary and charity organisations wishing to take a stall should contact Mrs Avril Jones by telephoning 01674 677702.

Mr Robb said: “This way both you and the RBLS will benefit.”
