MONTROSE’S lifeboat crew is set to face an unusual challenge at the end of this month - eating as much haggis as they can in under a minute.
The Slice of Scotland (SOS) haggis eat-off will be held on January 28 and has been organised after the idea was suggested by Neil Watt, of Watt Butchers in Murray Street, and local mechanic Scott Murray.
Lifeboat operations manager Ray Wilkie said: “We’re hoping to have six members of the all-weather lifeboat crew and three crew from the inshore lifeboat taking part in this challenge.
“The haggis will be piped in, the crew will have to eat as many balls of haggis as possible and then the public can also take part and meet the crew.”
The event, sponsored by Aberdeen company Chainco, will take place in the Caledonian Bar, Ferry Street, at 8pm.
