A POPULAR Montrose-based art class has helped one local woman reignite a talent and a passion for painting which she had enjoyed many years ago.

Joyce Ptaszek, from Hillside, attended the prestigious Glasgow School of Art when she was a teenager and developed her artistic talent as well as a striking signature art deco style.

After retiring from a busy life of family, work and travel Joyce decided to attend Helen Whamond’s art and design class at the Angus College learning centre on North Esk Road.

After a few weeks Joyce discovered that her enjoyment of painting was still strong and even after all these years away from art and design her signature style inspired by her time at Glasgow School of Art still shone through her work.

Joyce is now a regular at Helen’s class and she commented: “The class is really excellent; it is a great opportunity to experiment with different concepts and mediums, to study the work of inspirational artists or just to meet new people.”

Helen said: “It is great to see people like Joyce coming to the class and rediscovering a talent that they enjoyed many years ago. We also have many beginners coming to the classes and it is equally as rewarding to see them developing their own styles or even work towards certificated units. I would encourage anyone, beginners or experienced, to come along and give this exciting class a go.”

The next session begins in September and will run every Wednesday morning for eight weeks. To book a place, please call Karen Cargill on 01241 432724.
