A angry Montrose dog owner is appealing for anyone to come forward who may have seen her toy poodle get run over by a car which she claims didn’t stop.
Jeanes Graham (40), of Christie’s Lane, is seeking information about the car which ran over her toy poodle MooMoo, who died at the scene, on Baltic Street at around 4.30 p.m. on Sunday, December 8.
Miss Graham said: “My Christmas has been ruined. He was my life, he never left my side and always sat with me. I’m devastated. The house is so quiet without him. For him not to be here it’s terrible.
“MooMoo accidently got out of the house and he ran and onto Baltic Street. My friend ran after him and saw him get run over by a car.”
Miss Graham claims that her friend said the car was speeding and didn’t stop after hitting the light brown toy poodle, who would have been five in two weeks time.
She added: “It’s my fault that he got out of the house but for someone not to stop is nasty and evil. They didn’t care.
“Next time it could be a child, I’m glad it wasn’t, but would they have stopped if it had been?
“I asked my friend if the driver would have noticed they had hit something, he said that there was such a big thump that they couldn’t have not known.”
“My family and I won’t stop until this person has been caught,” Miss Graham concluded.
A spokesperson for the police said: “Tayside Division received a report that a dog was hit by a car on Sunday, December 8, in Montrose, Sadly, the dog succumbed to its injuries.”
By law, anyone in the UK who runs over a dog, even if it is not killed, must stop and report the accident to the police within 24 hours.
