Girlguiding Angus held their annual meeting at Carnoustie High School on Thursday, April 22. County President Mary Ramsay welcomed everyone to the meeting then County Commissioner Fiona Dalziel talked about Guiding today and in particular the ‘Big Brownie Birthday’ - Brownies (the section of Guiding for seven to 10 year olds) are 100 years old year this year. Fiona shared some of her memories of being a Brownie and those of her mother. The Brownie programme has changed over the years with Brownies now doing badges such as Science Investigator, Circus Performer and World issues - as with the other guiding sections the programme has evolved over the years to be relevant to today’s girls.
Fiona shared with those present a slide show highlighting some of the amazing opportunities there had been for members of Girlguiding Angus over the last year such as camps, international trips, adventurous activities, learning new skills and sharing experiences and making new friends. Fiona thanked the dedicated team of volunteers in the County who enabled the amazing opportunities to be available. In the coming year she stated that: “We will strive to offer Guiding opportunities to more girls and adults”. She presented two leaders with 10 year long-service awards – Brenda Angus from Brechin and Lesley Paterson from Montrose.
