Bishop of Brechin at harbour

A RECENT visitor to the Haven Seafarers’ Centre, Meridian Street, was the Bishop of Brechin, The Right Reverend Dr Nigel Peyton.

He was shown around the centre, and took a great interest in the work that is carried out there.

The visit was conducted by the Rev. Tim Tunley, the Scottish Chaplain for the Mission to Seafarers.

The Bishop started his visit at 10am, and was greeted by the Rev. David Dixon, Inchbrayock Church, as well as Mr Peter Donald, the Montrose and Dundee Port Chaplain, and volunteers from the Haven.

After having a discussion over coffee, Bishop Peyton was given a tour of the centre, where he met and spoke to a number of the volunteers, taking a keen interest in the work they do and the stories they had to offer.

After his visit to the Seafarers’ Centre, Bishop Peyton then went to Montrose Harbour where by coincidence he found himself watching the naming ceremony of Montrose Academy’s new boat - The Ronald Small - named in memory of the late rector.

The Bishop also visited a Dutch cargo ship, the ‘Jade’.

By another coincidence, the vessel, under its owner/captain, had previously docked in Grangemouth, where the Rev. Tunley is based, and he was able to renew a very recent acquaintance.
