Book award shortlist revealed
THE FOUR shortlisted titles for this year’s Angus Book Award have been announced this week by Angus Council.
Over the next few months, pupils across the county’s secondary schools will have the opportunity to read and take part in discussions around the four books, before voting for their favourite in a secret ballot in May.
They will also have the chance to apply their creativity in alternative book jacket and book ‘blurb’ competitions. A GLOW blog has been set up for pupils from all eight schools to share their views on the books.
This year’s winner will be announced at an award ceremony at Arbroath High School on Wednesday, June 5.
The four shortlisted titles are ‘Buried Thunder’ by Tim Bowler (Oxford University Press), ‘Hitler’s Angel’ by William Osborne (Chicken House), ‘Mister Creecher’ by Chris Priestly (Bloomsbury) and ‘Slated’ Teri Terry (Orchard Books).
The annual event, which began in 1996, is aimed at promoting reading for enjoyment among Angus teenagers. It gives both committed and less enthusiastic readers the chance to engage with new, rewarding and accessible books for teenagers.
